This cycle journal describes my trip from my hometown of Pullman WA to Fort Scott KS. Most of this route follows the Adventure Cycling Association Western Express route, so you'll find lots of additional information on that part of the route on the web. The start of the trip took me through the less traveled areas of central Oregon and Washington which I can recommend for their lonely quiet roads and stark desert beauty. As with all the travel in the western deserts of the US, one must carefully plan for water and food. The Western Express is famous for this problem, but central Oregon may present even more difficulties. Between the Narrows OR and Winnemucca NV the route covers over 250 miles with only a very few places to find water or food.
